fishing since childhood, guiding since 2009.

A full-time guide since 2009, Jay’s professionalism and passion for everything fishing are apparent the moment you meet him. His enthusiasm, intensity and patience on the water combine for a unique “guide style” which fits most any angler.

Operating as a fully licensed and insured USCG Captain, Jay is just as at home behind the oars of a drift boat as he is on the tiller of an outboard.

This versatility allows Jay to maximize seasonal opportunities for trout, smallmouth, musky and striped bass on a number of fisheries throughout Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina.

A graduate of Appalachian State—Jay splits his time between Banner Elk, NC and Roanoke, VA. Guiding where the fishing is most productive and the rivers are least crowded.

Although most of his 200+ days a year are spent prowling the rivers of the Southeast, Jay’s range of fishing experience spans Alaska to Belize, and countless fisheries in between.

When he isn’t fishing, you can find Jay behind the counter of his fly shop, Roanoke Angler.
